Bernadette R. "Bernie" Lemm, age 84 of New Munich, died Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Melrose Area Hospital in Melrose, Minnesota, after a courageous four year battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich with Rev. Roger Klassen, OSB officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Patton-Schad Funeral Home in Melrose. Parish prayers will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by the Christian Mothers at 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
Bernadette Rose Uphoff was born November 1, 1925 in New Munich, Minnesota to Bernard and Frieda (Klaphake) Uphoff. On September 8, 1948 she was united in marriage to Jerome Lemm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich. Bernie spent her entire life in New Munich, raising her children and helping out when possible on the family farm. Bernie was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich and the Saint Anne's Christian Mothers. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Jerome Lemm of New Munich; children, Sharon (Bill) Beckers of New Munich, Pat (Darrell) Winter of Lakeville, Ken (Kathy) Lemm of Melrose, Rick (Diane) Lemm of Melrose, Karl (Ruth) Lemm of Melrose, Lisa (Duane) May of St. Stephen, and Steve Lemm of Melrose; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Virgil (Shirley) Uphoff of Greenwald; and sisters, Regina (Jack) Sundermann of Sauk Centre and Dorine (Clarence) VonWahlde of New Munich.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Frieda Uphoff; son, Paul Lemm; great-grandson, Levi Lemm; and brothers, Celestine Uphoff and Sylvester Uphoff.
Serving as casket bearers will be Shawn Beckers, Kyle Winter, Chad Lemm, Brad Lemm, David Lemm, Collin May, and Logan May. Cross bearer will be Sara Birr and scripture bearer will be Anna Lemm. Honorary bearers will be the Saint Anne's Christian Mothers.
